100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups – Wk#33 – Prompt: Picture – 100 words – “I Believe”

A frantic mother was searching the gallery for her lost daughter. She was about to call a gallery guard when she saw her daughter sitting, staring at a driftwood sculpture of a horse.

“Sweetheart, mummy was worried. You should have stayed with me.”

“…but this horse is beautiful. I’m wishing she was real.”

“Wishing won’t make it happen. It’s not real.”

“Daddy always tells me if I dream and believe, I’ll achieve so I’m wishing she was real.”

Mummy sat with her daughter and listened to her whisper, “I believe.”

Her daughter pointed to the horse now becoming real, “See.”

Saturday Centus Wk 96 – Prompt: “Saying goodbye was harder than she thought” in 107 words – “Wendy”

From childhood, Alexandra was destined to care for animals. In time, she joined with friends to buy an animal refuge. Her goal was to have it run by like-minded volunteers.

This is how she met Wendy, the name given a young orphaned wombat. Wendy, so young, didn’t have much of a chance of survival. Most didn’t yet Alexandra was determined and spent many sleepless nights.

“This one will survive,” she said as Wendy snuggled up to her.

As is the goal of rescuing wildlife, the time came to release Wendy. For Alexandra, saying goodbye was harder than she thought. Wendy took one look back and was gone.

100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups – Wk#32 – Prompt: …Take a leap of faith… – 100 words – “Against All Odds”

Born premature, so small, every breath was a struggle. Walking took longer, cerebral palsy the doctors had explained.

As she grew, school was sometimes made hard by staring eyes blind to what was inside. In sport, she always tried but never won other than the hearts of many.

As an adult, she turned to writing. Success followed success.

Interviewer, “You were never afraid to take a leap of faith?”

Faith replied, “With my name, how could I not? I always knew those I loved would be there to help me if I fell.”

Her autobiography, “Faith, a Leap of Me.”

Saturday Centus Wk 95 – Prompt: “The chair dominated the small room.” in 106 words – “Gangy”

The family had gathered, grandfather in a large chair. The chair dominated the small room.

Once strong, grandfather was frail, worn by years of toil and care. He saw his youngest grandson, just three.

“Come to your grandad,” he smiled with his hands held out.

The child approached, eyes bright for one he loved, not able to say granddad, “Gangy.”

Grandad sat his grandson on his lap, “How’s my big man?”

“Good, Gangy” he replied.

Grandad slipped a sweet to the boy, “Don’t tell mummy.”

“Hanks,” replied the grandson with a smile.

Gangy now long gone, the memory remains, the child grown to tell the tale.

100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups – Week#31 – Prompt: …the flip side… – 100 words – “Fun?”

Debbie turned the old record to the flip side once again, “This is fun, daddy, isn’t it?”

It was fun the first time we played the nursery rhyme record as we danced and sang to each song. The second time we danced and sang to each song was nice. The third time was fun as I watched Debbie dance and sing. By the fourth, fifth, sixth…

I sighed. How many times will the stars twinkle, Miss Muffet be frightened by a spider, or will Incy Wincy climb the water spout?

Smiling at little Debbie’s beaming face, “Yes, sweetheart. It’s fun.”

Saturday Centus Week 93 – Prompt: …the wedding was atthe firehouse… – in 106 words – “First Dawn”

The time of union had passed. The wedding was at the firehouse, the celebration on the village green. There had been partying. Now all was quiet.

Miklik announced, “Kinsfolk, it’s almost time. Rise and await the coming.”

Legend had told of this time. Lady Sky would wed Lord Fire and bring light into the world. This was to be the first morning.

“Look!” shouted a young kinschild.

All eyes turned in the direction of the pointing child. The first light started to show above the distant horizon. Kinsfolk cheered. The union had been successful. Light had fallen on the world. Darkness would no longer reign alone.

100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups – Week#30 – Prompt: …it wasn’t my fault… – 100 words + prompt – “The Coming Storm”

It wasn’t my fault,” I protested as I was sent to the timeout seat because John tripped over and said I tripped him.

“It wasn’t my fault,” I said as I was sent to the timeout seat when Jenny spilt her milk and said I bumped her.

“It wasn’t my fault,” I complained when sent to the timeout seat for speaking even though Michael was the one who spoke.

I give up!

“Look outside, children,” the teacher pointed to a coming storm.

I headed to the timeout seat.

The teacher stopped me, “Where are you going?”

“You blamed me for everything else,” I sighed.

Saturday Centus Week 92 – Prompt: …two peas in a pod… – in 105 words – “Crunch!”

Suzie and Steven had always been together. How could it be otherwise, they were twins.

“Steven, I’m hungry.”

“We’re almost there.”

One thing the twins had in common was their lack of interest in moving anywhere quickly. Eventually they arrived where Steven had intended.

Suzie’s eyes scanned the scene, “This is great. There’s two peas in a pod, one for each of us.”

Each chose a pea and started to enjoy their simple meal, slowly as usual. Neither had seen the approaching danger.

Crunch!

A booming voice was heard as Steven and his sister died, “I just squashed two more snails in the vegies, dad.”
