#100WCGU – Wk119 – Prompt: …whenever I hear it, I think of you… – 106 words – “Clock”

29 Jan

The end of day. I sit in comfort, the day nearly done.

Tick…

Have I dozed?

Tock…

Silence broken by a moment in time.

Tick…

A cup of tea nearby, untouched.

Tock…

Am I dreaming?

Tick…

The interval seeming unnatural in length, an eternity of reflection.

Tock…

Thoughts of long lives and loves lost.

Tick…

Laughter and sadness, good times and bad…

Tock…

Children and friends, the times we had.

Tick…

Growing old together.

Tock…

The pain of being alone.

Tick…

Whenever I hear it, I think of you.

Tock…

Much slower now.

Tick…

Memories fade. Lights dim.

Toc………

Sleep eternal with a life well spent.

Clock old man

“like” wasn’t powerful enough. Love this.

Thanks for the comment. The idea had come with the recent loss of a man I know who was in his 90s.

Thanks for the comment. I like the unusual take on prompts if an idea comes to mind. 🙂

The onomatopoeia works really well and the whole piece flows fantastically. I really enjoyed it.
(I’m so happy that I got the opportunity to use onomatopoeia in a sentence today! I have used it since English GCSE!”

Thanks for the comment. I know what you mean. I like when I’m able to slip words like serendipity into a sentence. 🙂
