Saturday Centus – Wk#128 – Prompt: “How beautifully leaves grow old” – 105 words – “Mabel and William”

09 Oct

The summer leaves had gone, replaced by the gold, yellow and brown of autumn. Mabel and her lifelong love, William, sat hand in hand enjoying the warming sun.

How beautifully leaves grow old,” William suggested.

Mabel said contentedly, “Autumn is my favourite time of the year. The heat of summer gives way to cooler times.”

William gave one of those cheeky grins she had loved from their first meeting, “Not because we’re also in the autumn of our lives?”

“If only I were as beautiful as the autumn leaves,” Mabel sighed.

William held her closer, “You’ll always be more beautiful than all the seasons’ colours.”

Thanks for the comment and my apologies for the long delay in reply.

I have a photo taken of an elderly couple standing hand in hand under some trees. While the photo is nothing special the image of a couple so close was.

      Thanks for the comment.

I was wondering if others would choose a similar theme. I liked the idea of growing old together. 🙂

      Thanks for the comment.

I can imagine a scene something like this in the real world and, as I wrote in another reply, have a photo of an elderly couple standing hand in hand. 🙂

I think I might be in love with William.

    Sssshhh…

    Don’t tell Mabel.

    Or my husband!

Great writing…when you see with your heart there is no place for gray.

Thanks for the comment and my apologies for the delay in replying.

Can you keep a secret? William and Mabel were my paternal grandparents. They would sit under the trees just to enjoy their time together. Their story inspired this one. 🙂
