#100WCGU – Wk#44 – Prompt: Poem related to the Diamond Jubilee – “Our Time Too”

29 May

When people cheered the new crowned queen,
Her beauty, her majesty, few had seen.
T’was on that day we pledged out troth,
To share our lives we promised, both.

Many years have passed and time has come,
A time so rarely seen ‘cept by some,
They speak of the Diamond Jubilee,
Our Diamond too, for her and me.

The years have passed though hair is grey,
I turn to her to have my say.
She hushes me and holds me tight,
We see each other as on first night.

The Queen of Diamonds has her day,
For us we’d have it no other way.

      Thanks for the comment.

Having had an uncle and aunt celebrate their diamond anniversary not all that long ago, the idea came to mind.

What a wonderful tribute to longevity Ross. I take my hat off to folks who achieve such wonderful milestones. Thank you for joining the Jubilee here!

      Thanks for the comment.

In these days when marriage doesn’t seem “until death do us part” for so many, it’s always pleasant to know of those who have made it last. :0

Seeing an older couple still in love after many years is always a wonderful experience.

      Thanks for the comment.

I have been to golden wedding anniversaries but diamond anniversaries are rarer and all the more to treasure as is Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee.

That is a lovely poem. My parents have one more year to go to reach their diamond anniversary.

      Thanks for the comment.

What had amazed me about my uncle and aunty is they could still be seen walking hand in hand a times. Such long term relationships are national treasures.
