Saturday Centus – Wk#104 – Prompt: “There’s a yellow rose in Texas…” – 105 words – “My Girl”

29 Apr

There’s a yellow rose in Texas.

“I know the song,” nurse said seeing the sadness in his now lucid old eyes.

“Not the song. Texas in Australia.”

He continued, “It was a small town full of good people. I’d spent time there, bought a pup to have company. She was a bundle of fun and loved chewing my shoes.”

“Was she Rose?”

He smiled, “Yes, Rose was my girl. She was popular with all the kids. Everyone knew her. She knew everyone.”

“One day Rose didn’t see a speeding car. I buried Rose under our favourite tree and planted a rose.”

“A yellow rose?”

“Yes.”

      Thanks for the comment.

I’ve owned a number of dogs over the years. They become part of the family and can be so missed when gone.

Sad, but sweet. Did you make up the town of Texas in Australia, or does it exist?

      Thanks for the comment.

I’m sorry it has taken so long to reply but I have had a busy time lately. There is a town called Texas in Queensland, Australia. If you have Google Earth, search for “Texas Queensland Australia”. There is a street view of their main street. 🙂

      Thanks for the comment.

I met the little girl in the photo last year. She was very popular with the children but, with a face like that, who could resist. 🙂

      Thanks for the comment.

For anyone who has had and loved a pet, they know the feeling in the story. 🙂

      Thanks for the comment.

Sad in two ways, the loss of a pet and the losing of memories some suffers as they age.

      Thanks for the comment.

The story was fiction but the feeling was for lost pets we all suffer.
