100 WC for Grown Ups – Week#2

19 Jul

I sit frozen in time watching the world pass by my feet. My eyes see the people as they pass. Their worries, fears, loves and hates give me life yet I can’t move. No one can see me as real.

Each day I dream of walking the streets, of greeting friends, of holding the hand of a child, and of having a purpose for being.

A child approaches and I hear her say, “Mummy, he looks so sad.”

She steps up and kisses me on the cheek.

“Don’t be sad,” she says softly.

Tears form in my eyes. I smile.

How emotional Ross! It reminds me of one of those street performers who must not move despite human contact. Great to see you again on the 100WCGU!

This could read as a wonderful Twilight Zone sort of fantasy on loneliness (as if the statue had feelings), or as a very sad meditation on paralysis. Of the body or the soul.
