#100WCGU – Wk49 – Prompt: Murray was about to serve for the championship when… – 110 words – “Pretty!”
12Jul
Murray was about to serve for the championship when the only sound to be heard was that of the veritable pin. I sat transfixed by the scene on the wide screen television I had bought just for the tennis. Even from my seat I could feel the tension in the air.
“Mum!” came a call from the next room. “Come and look!”
“Not now! What are they up to?” I mumbled as I rushed to the call.
“I painted Sophie,” Josh announced.
“Pretty!” giggled Sophie.
I rushed to grab the camera. Sophie was painted from head to toe. Both were giggling.
Tennis could wait for the replay. This was priceless.
Oh, quite cute! And definitely worth letting tennis wait. I like that line about sitting transfixed in front of the TV bought specifically for this purpose. And then how it’s suddenly forgotten. Nice!
As I am often distracted by things other than television, I have a habit of programming something I might want to watch if I have time. It seemed natural my character also would. 🙂
I agree about children. When we pass by a moment in their lives, it doesn’t return. They seem to grow so quickly.
Having retired from full time teaching, I miss the relationship built with classes throughout the school year. Blogging and commenting on student blogs has become a passion because it allows me to be a part of a class if only for a brief time. 🙂

Thanks for the comment.
We sometimes see things as important in our lives only to be reminded at times of what is truly important. 🙂

Thanks for the comment.
Years of teaching young children normally drives my themes in their direction. 🙂

This is lovely. (And you also had the presence of mind to make sure you’d get to see a replay!)

Children are wonderful, and most often deserve our attention in place of whatever may be happening before us at the moment.
i usually stop for them.
Thanks for the most excellent veritable pin spot in the story – i laughed… Randy

yes, I agree. Once the kids leave, we can hear that pin drop again. Too quiet for me. I love kids… Thanks
