100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups – Wk#38 – Prompt: “I’m exhausted. Shut the door behind you – “Tough Times”

Have you had one of those days when everything seems to go wrong?

I was late but it wasn’t my fault. Someone had thought it funny to trip me when I was carrying a drink. Work was already waiting when I sat at my desk.

When I had a break, I barely had time to have something to eat and have a drink because I had to stop friends fighting. The afternoon was no better.

Now I’m home.

“Are you all right?” It was her.

I’m exhausted. Shut the door behind you please, mummy.”

Life can be hard when you’re five and have to go to school.

Saturday Centus – Wk#104 – Prompt: “There’s a yellow rose in Texas…” – 105 words – “My Girl”

There’s a yellow rose in Texas.

“I know the song,” nurse said seeing the sadness in his now lucid old eyes.

“Not the song. Texas in Australia.”

He continued, “It was a small town full of good people. I’d spent time there, bought a pup to have company. She was a bundle of fun and loved chewing my shoes.”

“Was she Rose?”

He smiled, “Yes, Rose was my girl. She was popular with all the kids. Everyone knew her. She knew everyone.”

“One day Rose didn’t see a speeding car. I buried Rose under our favourite tree and planted a rose.”

“A yellow rose?”

“Yes.”
